OEM Sheet Metal Parts: Supplier Checklist for Overseas Buyers

OEM sheet metal parts are rarely just drawings and price. Buyers need a supplier that can understand the function of the part, protect revision control, and keep production repeatable after the first sample is approved.

What counts as OEM sheet metal work

Custom enclosures, brackets, panels, chassis, covers, welded frames, and assembled metal subcomponents.

Parts are made to buyer drawings, samples, or BOM requirements rather than catalog specifications.

The supplier should understand part function, mating surfaces, finish expectations, and packaging rules.

Supplier qualification checklist

Check whether the supplier can review drawings and ask practical engineering questions before quoting.

Confirm process coverage: cutting, bending, welding, hardware, finishing, inspection, and packing.

Ask how revisions are controlled and how repeat orders are checked against approved samples.

Quality checkpoints

Incoming material checks, first article inspection, in-process checks, final appearance review, and packing inspection are common controls.

Critical dimensions and visible surfaces should be documented before production.

If parts are assembled into a larger product, fixture or mating checks may be needed.

How to send a useful RFQ

Include 2D drawings, 3D files, material, thickness, finish, order quantity, annual demand, packaging, and destination.

Mention target lead time and whether the project is a new design, supplier transfer, or cost-down sourcing project.
